On Thursday, General Joseph Dunford, Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, announced the military’s current policy that allows transgender Americans to serve will remain in place until Trump actually sends the Defense Department a rules change and Defense Secretary James Mattis issues new guidelines.
“There will be no modifications to the current policy until the President’s direction has been received by the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary has issued implementation guidance,” Dunford said in a letter to service chiefs, which was first reported by Reuters.
