“It’s Not Going to Work Now”: Titus Condemns House Passage of Trump Tax Plan

One day after the U.S. House passed its version of the Trump Tax Plan, Rep. Dina Titus (D-Las Vegas) returned to Nevada and appeared at UNLV to explain how the tax bill would affect her constituents. Titus did not hold back in criticizing the House bill, and she pointed out how the Senate bill could cause just as many problems for working class Nevadans. (more…)

On Tuesday, a group of concerned retirees visited Senator Dean Heller’s (R) Las Vegas office to register their opposition to the tax plan President Donald Trump and Congressional Republican leaders have been rallying around. House Passes Its Version of Trump Tax Plan, But Senate Version Is in Doubt

Today, the House of Representatives passed its version of the Trump Tax Plan, mostly along party lines. With the House vote, President Donald Trump is one step closer to accomplishing a key part of his legislative agenda. Republicans Continue to Tweak Trump’s Tax Plan. It Still Benefits the Richest Americans the Most.

Despite some recent tweaks, it still largely mirrors what Republicans first proposed last month. That means the richest 1% of Americans would still enjoy the lion’s share of tax cuts, while everyone else is at risk of paying higher taxes and/or bearing the brunt of painful budget cuts. (more…)

Opinion: The New Norm of Violence

By Victor Rivera I’m glad to say that the greater Las Vegas community has responded to the Route 91 tragedy in a way that made me proud of my hometown. I volunteered on campus at UNLV to help collect supplies for victims and first responders. Everywhere, I was hearing stories of that civic pride like lines of people to donate blood stretched for blocks or that some centers that were collecting supplies were indeed already full. A shocking event happened,…

Change Makers: Moms Demand Action’s Elizabeth Becker on Her Continuing Work to End Gun Violence in Nevada

Elizabeth Becker did not originally plan to work on gun violence prevention. Instead, like so many other gun safety activists, the issue found her. Since then, Becker has been on the front line in fights to expand background checks and prevent dangerous weapons from falling into the wrong hands. After the October 1 shooting, Nevada’s gun laws received national attention, particularly a voter approved initiative that has not been enforced since the last election. We speak with Becker about not…
